Overview[edit | edit source]

This 7″ EP is in fact a small compilation of Dave Ball tracks from different years – 1979 and 2019: the older ones are his demos for Soft Cell, while the newer one – “Nighthawks”, was written and recorded especially for Electronic Boy box set.[1][2]

Release[edit | edit source]

The EP and its sister CD compilation, 1979–2019, were released under A Big Frock Rekord label, within limited Deluxe box set edition (about 500 copies) of Dave Ball's autobiography Electronic Boy, on 25 June 2020. All 3 tracks featured on 7″ also appear on aforementioned CD and are exclusive to both releases.[2]

Personnel[edit | edit source]

  • Performer – Dave Ball

On 1979–2019 compilation Soft Cell are listed as artist for “And My Last Breath” and “Art Student Part 2” tracks since they are early demos for the project, but essentially Ball is the sole musical author of and instrumental performer on these two recordings.

Artwork[edit | edit source]

The EP is contained in simple white paper sleeve with visible vinyl labels. The labels replicate the appearance of box set: against plain black background, a logotype of analog VU meter with stylized ‘daveBall’ name replacing standard ‘VU’; the stylization is an obvious node to Decibel (dB) unit. Underneath the logo is release info such as track titles, length, etc. The author of design is unknown.
