Aside from classic single tracks, that appeared on previous compilations, Keychains And Snowstorms includes new picks:
- “Sex Dwarf” – got a single release only in 2016, as a Record Store Day single[1]
- “Insecure Me” – was originally planned to be an AA side of Torch[1]
- “Divided Soul” – also was planned to be a single, but didn't make it[1]
- “Northern Lights” and “Guilty (Cos I Say You Are)” – from new double-A single released the same day; both tracks didn't make into associated box set due to manufacturing times[2]

The CD compilation was announced on 21th August 2018, along with new single, Northern Lights / Guilty (Cos I Say You Are).[3][4] It was released on 28 September, along with aforementioned single release and a remix EP.

- Like other 2018 releases, celebrating 40th anniversary since formation of Soft Cell, Keychains And Snowstorms has got its name after a line from “Memorabilia” song.
