“Light Sleepers” was recorded for Soft Cell's 2022 studio album *Happiness Not Included and was released as AA track of duo's final single of the year and album, Last Chance (Christmas Mix) / Light Sleepers.[1] For Record Store Day 2023 release the song was remixed by The Grid, Dave Ball's electronic dance project.
“Last Chance” was first recorded for 2001 studio album Cruelty Without Beauty and got fully reworked for aforementioned 2022 single as ‘Christmas Mix’ with full live brass section;[2][3] on Record Store Day release it became B-side with alternative title – ‘Brass Mix’.

The single, pressed on clear 12" vinyl, was revealed with numerous other Record Store Day 2023 releases in 16 February,[4] and on next day announced on Soft Cell's official pages.[5] The Record Store Day event started in 22 April.[4][6] The remaining, unsold copies of the single became available for purchase in Soft Cell affiliated web stores in early May.[7]

Front cover artwork by James McWilliam[3] presents Los Angeles imagery with skyscrapers, palms and birds by early morning sky.[6] Concept is credited to Chris Smith.

- Single's artwork was first revelead on Soft Cell's official pages[8] and affiliated web store[3] as cover of 2022 CD single, which in the end became Last Chance (Christmas Mix) / Light Sleepers, with reversed track order and Christmas themed artworks.
